Families all over the country are worried about their loved ones during this COVID-19 pandemic. They’re told to watch out for symptoms of the virus such as a high fever and cough. If someone has the symptoms, they are urged to get tested. And, if they test positive, they’re supposed to self-quarantine.
For a family in Camden, South Carolina, this became real as of this week. Their 7-month old baby, Emmett Doster, woke up from his nap and didn’t feel well. His mom, Courtney Doster took his temperature. It was over 104.
They took their baby to the hospital and he tested positive for the virus. They were told to take the baby home and for the entire family to stay at home. The family’s other children –aged 2 and 4 – were not sick and have tested negative for the virus.
Both Courtney Doster and her husband are the legal guardians for baby Emmett. They were both told by the hospital that they need to stay home with their child for at least fourteen (14) days.
Families all over the country are going through the same thing. For the Doster family, both parents were listed as the child’s legal guardians so they had no problem getting their baby treatment. But if you and your partner aren’t both legal guardians, you could run into trouble.
