An Orangeburg man will spend over a decade in prison after the court found him guilty of sex crimes against a minor. On Monday, September 27th, South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson announced that Kyle Teran would spend 12 years behind bars. The Orangeburg man pleaded guilty to one count of Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor, a 3rd-degree offense, and one count of Sexual Exploitation.
The Honorable Judge Edgar Dickson sentenced Teran on Wednesday, September 22nd. According to the press release by the AG’s office, officers with the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a residence in Orangeburg County for a possible sexual assault on February 10th, 2019. When they arrived, they found that the convict sexually assaulted a 3-year-old child the night before.
Teran also took explicit pictures of the child. The police also found that the man sent the photos to another person through a social media app. After the investigators read him the Miranda rights, he admitted touching the child sexually and sharing the pictures. A complete forensic examination of the man’s phone by the Attorney General’s Office revealed 650 images and videos of sexual abuse material.
Judge Dickson sentenced Teran to 12 years in prison on the Criminal Sexual Conduct charge and 12 years on the Sexual Exploitation of a Minor. The sentences will run concurrently, meaning he will serve the two at the same time. Upon release from jail, he will register as a sex offender and will be on GPS monitoring all his life.
